Andrew Arnott : Why double-clicking on an .SLN file doesn't always launch Visual Studio
I thought this was because of the UAC, but it has nothing to do with that. Glad to have a fix!

I just had to refer back to this. The solution file I was working on wouldn't open in VS from command line or from Explorer. It turned out that the sln file did not have a blank line at the top, and VS apparently needs one.I added the blank line and the icon immediately got the [9] overlay and it now opens from Explorer or command line.
